How to use the Gregorian–Lunar Date Converter
This tool is built on a professional Chinese lunar calendar library to provide precise two-way conversion between Gregorian (solar) dates and Chinese lunar dates. It also displays Gan-Zhi year cycle, Chinese zodiac, solar terms and both traditional and modern festivals. All calculations run entirely in your browser; no data is sent to any server.
- Choose the calendar type at the top: Gregorian or Lunar. In Gregorian mode, pick a Gregorian year, month and day; in Lunar mode, pick a lunar year, month and day, and check the "Leap month" option if needed.
- Click the "Convert" button and the tool will calculate the corresponding Gregorian or lunar date, then show detailed information including Gan-Zhi cycle, zodiac, constellation, weekday and festivals/solar terms.
- Click the "Today" button to quickly view today’s Gregorian/Lunar mapping and related information, which is handy for daily use.
- Lunar month names and festival/solar term names come from the underlying lunar library. Different implementations may have subtle differences; this tool follows the behavior of the bundled library.
FAQ
What year range is supported?
The supported range depends on the underlying lunar library, but typically covers roughly 1900–2100. For reliable results, it is recommended to stay within this range.
Why do some dates have no festival or solar term?
Most days in the year are not associated with any traditional festival or solar term. If the selected date has no matching festival or solar term, the tool simply shows that there is no such information.
How is the lunar leap month handled?
When a lunar year has a leap month, you can tick the "Leap month" checkbox in lunar mode and choose the corresponding month. The underlying algorithm will automatically handle the difference between normal and leap months when converting.
Is this tool suitable for rigorous calendrical research?
The tool is primarily designed for everyday and business use. Although it relies on a widely used lunar library, definitions for extreme historical or far-future dates may differ from academic literature. For rigorous research, please cross-check with specialized references.
