Overview

The monochrome image matting tool removes solid or near-solid backgrounds in the browser and exports a transparent PNG using sampled color, tolerance, edge softness, and spill suppression.

Features

  • Pick the background color directly from the original image.
  • Adjust tolerance to control how close pixels must be to the background color.
  • Adjust edge softness for smoother semi-transparent edges.
  • Reduce colored edge spill from green screen, blue screen, or other solid backdrops.
  • Preview on a transparent checkerboard and export PNG.

Steps

  1. Upload the image to process.
  2. Set the background color manually, or pick it from the original image.
  3. Adjust tolerance, edge softness, and spill suppression.
  4. Click Start Matting to preview the transparent result.
  5. Download the transparent PNG.

Settings

  • Higher tolerance removes more pixels close to the sampled background color.
  • Higher edge softness creates a wider transparent transition around the subject.
  • Higher spill suppression reduces background tint on subject edges.

Use Cases

  • Create transparent portraits, avatars, and ID photo assets.
  • Remove white, black, green, blue, or other solid product photo backgrounds.
  • Prepare images for webpages, posters, presentations, and ecommerce materials.
